Palm Sunday
PALM SUNDAY.
The Church, I and my family attended today for this very special time is led by a Pastor who is upstanding man and a great teacher of the Word of God. His sermon on the events transpiring as Christ entered Jerusalem and it’s message for us, was powerful. No matter how many times I read and re-read those events, I keep coming back to what I now understand caused the conspiracy to kill Our Lord Jesus Christ. I have in my time listened to hundreds of sermons depicting this final week before Christ was crucified, yet I do not recall one that gave this perspective to those events. Hear me out, then think about the fact that times change, but the nature of man does not.
There is only one time in the Gospel that Our Lord, Jesus the Christ showed anger and acted with force. Here is recorded the Prince of Peace in a violent commanding act. Mathew 21:12, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overturned the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves”.
I believe that action led to the Moneychangers conspiring to have Christ killed. Why would they and who were these moneychangers?
| New Unger’s Bible Dictionary stated the following about the moneychangers. “Bankers who sat in the Court of the Gentiles (or in its porch) and for a fixed discount changed all foreign coins into those of the sanctuary. … This tribute was in every case to be paid in the exact Hebrew half shekel. The money changers assessed a fixed charge for their services. This charge must have brought in a large revenue, since not only many native Palestinians might come without the statutory coin, but a vast number of foreign Jews presented themselves on such occasions in the Temple. In addition to the tribute, those who came to worship at the Temple needed money for other purposes. Most sacrifices for the feasts were bought within the Temple area. It was easier to get the right money from the authorized changers than to have disputes with the dealers. Thus the immense offerings of foreign Jews and proselytes to the Temple passed through the hands of the moneychangers. Indeed, they probably transacted all business matters connected with the sanctuary.”Why did Christ confront the moneychangers?
The moneychangers were one the most powerful sects in Israel, for they raised a great deal of money for the Temple. The Pharisees sect was a lover money (Lk. 16:13) The moneychangers had a monopoly on the half shekel and buying and selling in the sanctuary. Thus, they could charge what they wanted for those coins. |
Here on this day Our Lord, Jesus the Christ sent a signal to the Jews and to the rest of time that this system of extortion of the peoples money must stop. The group that controls the Money Supply does not give up their vast power without a fight. Do you see the similarity to our society today? History tells us that Kings have been killed or dethroned, Prime Ministers and Presidents have also been eliminated if they had the gumption to challenge the rule of the Money Changers. For those of you who are not familiar with the history of money and how it has been controlled for the benefit of a few and the detriment of humanity please take the time to watch this video..An extremely well documented presentation covering the Money Changers throughout time and up today.
